This fall Run This Way school program propose a race around the world to highlight the adoption of the global treaty on elimination of nuclear weapons. Our goal compiled 40,075 km! km run or marched by students from various schools around the world. Why 40,075 km? its planet earth circumference ! "This year is special let’s celebrate the Global adoption by 132 nations of nuclear weapon ban!

When registering school’s responsible must indicate kilometers that students will run. All school responsible will receive a booklet with activities guide for nonviolence and presentation of "History of Global Disarmament". Why run total circumference of planet earth? We would like to highlight the "comprehensive" adoption of the treaty to eliminate of nuclear weapons adopted on 7 July 2017 at the United Nations by 132 Nations. Nations of all religions, cultures and ethnicities!

For the occasion, the 40,075 Km ran by students throughout the world will be handed over to the signatory states of the treaty. Why is it important to eliminate nuclear weapons? If a nuclear bomb explodes in North America, the lives of several hundred million people or even the population of the whole continent would be in danger.

Education may disappear, there will be no more schools, no more park, no more games. In a blink of an eye hundreds of species of animal and plant would vanish. We could lose the Internet, our cellphones and especially our civilization!

Why 40,075 km ? It’s earth circomference!

Run This Way school program
Run This Way school activities program (proposes running as a method of raising awareness for education for active nonviolence, for peace and to support physical activity among students.

Since 2011, several thousands of students from Quebec, Ireland, Argentina, France and Ecuador have participated in our activities for peace and nonviolence. (www.runthisway.ca)

Each year kilometers compiled by the race and walk organizes by various schools are symbolically handed over to an international organization or a personality working for peace, nonviolence and education. Run This Way is free program for elementary and high school students. Teacher, educators and facilitators can participate with students by filling out a registration form.

How it works: The responsible of the school completes a registration form and indicates number of kilometer the school wishes to contribute to complete the world tour. The registration form must be filled out before September 19th. The races have to organize between September 19 to November 20. Once the registration has been completed - the responsible will received a guide of Activities, photos from events in various schools and weekly newscasts showing the number of kilometers compiled by students. At the end of the race, "Around the World", each school will receive a certificate indicating the number of kilometers that the students will have contributed to the total amount. (During the fall, schools will be invited to participate in web conferences and exchange messages of hope with students from other countries)

World March for peace and nonviolence
In 2009, thousands of students around the world participated in the World march. The World March was organized by the international organization World Without Wars and without violence and crossed 93 countries in 90 days. The World March was calling for the end of wars, for dismantling of nuclear weapons and the end of all types of violence. (Physical, economic, racial, religious, sexual and physiological). Several state president, religious leaders and public figures supported the world march. In Quebec, thousands of elementary students and high school students from Montreal, Gatineau, Abitibi, James Bay, Trois-Rivières and Estrie participated in the World March. ( info)

During the world march an open letter was sent to the world's powerful leaders inviting them to reflect on the destructive power of nuclear bombs: "The responsibility in this moment in which the future of humanity is decided falls to you. You are those who will decide between history and prehistory, between humanization and animalization, between an earth for all and a world of fear, between a generous earth and a contaminated desert. You will be responsible for the social atmosphere that we breathe in the coming years."

Following the World March several initiatives were set up to pursue the global awareness for Active nonviolence and global nuclear disarmament. The Run This Way school program was launched to support this task. Today, the responsible of the school program are very proud to witness the commitment of young people that marches and ran to helped raise awareness for global peace, nonviolence and global disarmament!
